EARTH SPIRAL COMMUNITY

SEED TO Spirit
Beginners Herbal Apprenticeship
Start on your Spiral Green Path
Beginning with Air & Ending with Ether, the Elements are the foundational creation principles for all life on Earth.
To begin to walk the green path means to drop into the core foundations of the earth that we walk on and root into, the watery subconscious we flow through, the fires we tend within, the air we breathe and speak to and to embody the of Ether that contains and connects all.
We believe that the plant path is for everyone and that the world needs more embodied humans who understand how to use plants and food as medicine, whether it is simply for your own personal benefit or desire to help your broader community.

This apprenticeship is for anyone who is curious about the plant path and no prior experience or interest in becoming a practitioner is necessary. However, this apprenticeship will offer foundational knowledge for continuing to walk the path of becoming a practitioner if that is what you desire.

YOUR GUIDES

Allegra
Pronouns: She/Her | ☀ Taurus ☽ Virgo ↑ Aries
Allegra is a herbalist, digital creative artist, multipassionate fairy who’s driving focus is about reconnection via enchantment in this very disconnected world, leaning into the infinite wisdom and storied layers of healing traditions with the plants, fungi and the cosmos.
After discovering the herbal path, she has witnessed time & again how deeply the plants have supported her journey, helping her to heal & reconnect with herself as well as those close around her on their own healing journeys. In keeping with the lessons from her teachers, Allegra’s approach to teaching & her own philosophy goes beyond allopathic herbalism - it stems from the belief of plants as sentient, intelligent beings & spirits whose medicine treats far more than physical symptoms & ailments. They actually help us to realign and reconnect our consciousness with the collective universe.
For the full bio please read here.. Allegra is a herbalist, writer, fairy & digital creative artist for Earth Spiral Community, as well as a care advocate at Tree of Life Chiropractic. Allegra discovered herbal medicine through a portal of self re-discovery in University after a long period of burnout, depression, anxiety and mental health struggles - working in the beauty industry via retail and college at the same time was a difficult balance and also a difficult period, lending to an overall feeling of emptiness, eroding dreams, identity, & burnout. Though Allegra loved to play with the colors, textures and the sensorial experience of makeup and skincare, retail especially took a mental toll. She finished her degree by switching gears entirely from a Communications and New Media Studies degree to a Women and Gender Studies major with a minor in Holistic & Integrative Health, a decision made after a few instances of intuitive guidance. Making that switch propelled her forward - Allegra was enchanted by all that she was learning and experiencing, gaining a much deeper spiritual connection to the earth, it was like finding a religion that finally aligned with her heart. A few semesters taking classes such as Mindfulness, Feminist Yoga, Healing & Spirituality, as well as Politics of Difference and Family Violence led to her first real foray into Herbalism with Botanical Therapies. The plant path had been drawing her in from the start, but had no idea at the time how deep an impact it would make. Botanical Therapies with adjunct professor Katie Munn started in the first in 2020, with classes outside in a tent. Here, Allegra’s first true plant allies were Lemon Balm and Tulsi, nervous system herbs that helped hold her together while recovering from a deep bout of burnout and immense stress. That class was enough exposure to light the flames of inspiration. Shortly after, she was let go, as well as dozens of other part-time employees, from her retail job in beauty. There was suddenly way more time to integrate and dig in, but also somehow make new and deep connections even though it was all so uncertain. Allegra began following all sorts of herbalists and healers local to her area, listening to podcasts on herbalism and astrology anywhere she went. Her main three were Medicine Stories, The Plant Path with Sajah Popham and Astro-Calling (an astro career guide podcast). Her second herbal teacher came about after replying to a call for help - a herbalist in the area needed extra hands in her herbal gardens. Living less than five minutes away, she felt as if she had nothing left to lose. In that year she deeply connected with the land and her teacher, Kathleen of Madcap Moksha. Through Kathleen and her gardens, Allegra found that she was deeply tied to the plant path. The next year she eloped and married her true love of her life, Brittney in Acadia National Park - reading their vows in intimate company - with mountains, Goldenrods and New England asters, as well as a couple of dear friend, as witnesses. Shortly after, through more job heartbreak and much uncertainty, Allegra met Kelly at a herbal marketplace, Terra Market. She had been following her on Instagram and was drawn to her offerings & teachings. Her skills in writing, blogging, photography, and a keen eye for design helped pave the way for Allegra and Kelly’s work together. Allegra began working for Earth Spiral with graphic assistance for social media and product photography. In return, Allegra attended her first herbal apprenticeship, Plants in Color, in 2022. Each month was magical and inspiring - a whirlwind of magic and work that kept the flame ablaze. Continuing to work in the digital realms with Kelly on what expanded to be designing both websites and designing and writing newsletters, evolving to working in both the background as a photographer at retreats and eventually guiding small pieces as well. In 2025, Allegra co-taught alongside Kelly her second full term apprenticeship, The Spiral Path Apprenticeship, deepening her relationship once again with plants and her love of existing in the learning spaces, pushing herself far beyond her comfort zone of the student role when opportunities arose. Allegra’s journey continues to expand - from hosting a plant walk in upstate New York for a women's retreat, to helping facilitate and actualize the dream of the Spiral Path School of Embodied Herbalism alongside Kelly, as well as opening her own solo design studio, Spirit of Mercury, which has led her to work alongside the inspirational healers in the community to showcase their talents and gifts by to creating logos, websites, and photography with a sprinkle of social media design. Allegra carries a wide array of interests and skills that lend her to be a gentle & compassionate as well as a whimsical, playful teacher who loves to nerd out about a variety of things. Her deep wish is to help connect others to their own healing magick and to be deeply enchanted with all the layers that the plants & the cosmos weave through us.

JESS
Pronouns: They/Them | ☀ Libra ☽ Scorpio ↑ Scorpio
Jess is an embodied movement facilitator who is most passionate about empowering people to take charge of their own health through connection to the wisdom of their own bodies and the wisdom of supportive plant allies. They found the natural medicine path after a long childhood, teenage-hood, and early adult-hood of being failed by the traditional medical system and struggling with both physical and mental health due to poor diet and trauma. For the last 11 years, Jess has been on a whirlwind of a journey to go from an extremely detached, disassociated human who was at war with their own body to an empowered human who continues to build a deeper understanding of the language of body and helps guide others to do the same. Finding the plant path was the thread that wove together the web of coherence in Jess’ life and they are ecstatic to share the foundations of that path with you in this apprenticeship.
For the full bio please read here Jess is an embodied movement facilitator who guides people through exploring rock climbing, hiking, yoga, somatic movement, dance, breath and meditation. They found the natural medicine path after a long childhood, teenage-hood, and early adult-hood of being failed by the traditional medical system and struggling with both physical and mental health due to poor diet and trauma. Jess began using a variety of harmful coping tools in middle school that led to massive disassociation from body and spirit that lasted severely for about 10 years and more mildly for about 5 more. Finding connection with a special plant spirit at the age of 16 sparked the first inkling of hope in Jess as they learned that cultivating a more loving relationship with their body would lead to more joy and ease in life. It took until moving away from home, to attend the University of Maine in Orono before the lessons from Jess’ first meaningful plant connection began to fully root and sprout. They made friends who were healthy and began learning how to cook, and realized the power of using food and herbs intentionally to feel better in their mind and body. In college, Jess also found rock climbing and yoga - which collectively became the foundation for Jess’ more developed healing journey that brought them to where they are today. Jess graduated from UMaine with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Minor in Psychology in 2020. They have a deep love and appreciation for nature that is rooted in respect for biodiversity within wild spaces and a devotion to promoting more respect for biodiversity within human communities. They are fascinated by the relationship between humans and nature, as well as humans with themselves and each other, and how moving and exploring in the outdoors can cultivate more connection, collaboration and mental wellness for humans. They became a certified rock climbing guide with the support of Acadia Mountain Guides in summer 2021 and followed that with taking their 200 hr yoga teacher training with Asheville Yoga Center in fall 2021. Keeping the educational ball rolling, Jess soon after found Kelly of Earth Spiral Community and joined Kelly’s very first herbal apprenticeship cohort, Plants in Color, beginning in winter 2022. Jess additionally holds a Wilderness First Responder certification and has been quite addicted to reading books and taking workshops related to mental/spiritual health, herbal medicine, the lymphatic system, somatic movement, trauma science, nervous system science, and nutrition. Jess’ wide range of interests and skills leads to them being a very dynamic, playful teacher who is skilled in adjusting what they offer to fit the needs and energy of the group or person they are working with. They believe in challenge by choice and respect the boundaries of people’s nervous systems, while also gently encouraging people to go a little beyond their comfort zone in communication and movement to support people’s growth and capacity for believing in themselves. Jess knows that most people are capable of much more than their protective ego’s want them to believe and gathers much joy from empowering people to take charge of their own health through using herbs, food, movement and reframing thought patterns as medicine.
